May 2024 - Right at the end of the school year, Houston Middle School 7th grade student Caroline Bell has given us all a reason to celebrate! Caroline recently won the National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award. She is one of only two students in the state of Tennessee to receive this award.
Being a member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a great accomplishment all on its own, as it recognizes students for diligently and intently pursuing their academic coursework. The NJHS presents the Outstanding Achievement Award to middle-level students who have shown exemplary commitment to the five pillars of NJHS: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. This award also comes with a $500 college saving plan to support educational endeavors.
Several of Caroline’s teachers were quick to celebrate her success. Mr. Nesvick was proud to see Caroline’s hard work and dedication recognized, saying that she is an active band member and is in “too many clubs to count.” Mrs. Ogden, Mr. Haynes, and Mr. Andereck also complimented Caroline on her involvement, hard work, and dedication, but each teacher was also quick to share that Caroline is a kind and respectful individual. Mr. Andereck specifically said, “[Caroline] speaks with kindness towards peers and faculty alike,” and they all agreed that she is setting a great example for what being an HMS Mustang is all about.
