Thyme to Shine Gardening Club

Join us this spring to dig in, grow, and have some Good Thymes! Students will learn how to propagate plants and start seedlings while discovering the joy of gardening. The club will begin in the Spring 2026 semester and will meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. There is no club fee. Our first meeting is January 15, 2026 in Dr. Pratt's room 309.

This is a space where every student can come together to share their passion for gaming! We celebrate diversity and acceptance, ensuring everyone feels at home. Whether you’re into console or mobile games, this is the perfect place to connect with fellow gamers, exchange strategies, and enjoy some friendly competition. Bring your favorite games and snacks and be ready to make new friends in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Join us to level up your gaming experience and be part of a community that values fun and friendship! Room 206.

Social Media

In this club, students will learn how to create eye-catching content, practice keeping our school’s branding consistent, and explore what it means to share responsibly online. From dreaming up posts and videos, writing captions, and designing graphics, you’ll get hands-on experience running a real account, all while making HMS look amazing!

Are you interested in learning about other countries? Working on your public speaking skills? Spending a day downtown? Then Check out Model United Nations!

Meetings are held on Mondays right after school in Ms. Terry’s room (Room 307).

Science Olympiad

Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is the premier team STEM competition in the nation, providing standards-based challenges to 6,300 teams at 425 tournaments in all 50 states. Students compete in a range of categories in Life, Physical, and Earth science. Our HMS 23-24 Science Olympiad team placed in the top Regional rankings and participated in the state competition held in Knoxville, TN placing 12th in the state and bringing home the 3rd place award in Fossils while also placing in second place in Anatomy & Physiology and Microbe Mission.

Join us on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:02-4:30 in Room 101.

There is a $125 per student fee to cover test/build materials and team registration fees.

Dungeons & Dragons 

Do you like math, storytelling and using your imagination? Dungeons & Dragons Club at HMS will strive to create an enjoyable, safe, friendly and memorable experience. D&D is a fantasy roleplaying game that was first published in 1974. There are rules that help the game flow smoothly.

Meetings are every other Tuesday 3:05-4:05 PM in Room 408

There is no cost for this club.

MythMakers

MythMakers are enthusiasts of Greek and Roman Mythology and technology of the classical world. During our meetings we will explore myths and interpret many different aspects of mythology by making objects from the stories. Students will participate in local, state and national mythology competitions including Festivus and the National Pegasus Mythology Exams.

Meetings are 1st & 3rd Wednesdays after school in Mrs. Hosea's Room 401.

There is a $30 club fee.

National Junior Honor Society 

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well- rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond. Students must have at least a 3.75 GPA in the core four classes and no more than one S in conduct per semester. In addition, teacher recommendations and evidence of school and/or community involvement will be taken into account. Applications will be distributed after Q1 to eligible 7th and 8th graders. 8th graders do not need to reapply if they became a member in the previous year. 2 service projects and service hours are required of all members. There is a $20 fee for new member of this club for National dues, induction ceremony, and club supplies. Returning members do not have a fee.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an international club established in 1954 to encourage team building and organizational skills through a faith- based approach. Participants will learn the basics about the gospel message connected to FCA’s core values of integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence. All students (athletes and non-athletes) are welcome to join the club. There is no fee for this club. 

Meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month.

Chess Club

We play chess, and teach anyone who does not know how to play chess! There is no fee for this club.

Crochet

Crochet Club is a creative space where students learn and practice the art of crochet in a fun, relaxing environment. Members will explore different stitches, patterns, and projects, from simple scarves to colorful accessories. The club encourages creativity, patience, and craftsmanship while building a supportive community of makers. No experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

Meetings are the 1st Friday of every month from 3-4 PM in Mrs. Stine's room 213

Uno Club

UNO is the classic family card game that's easy to pick up and impossible to put down! Strategize to defeat your competition with special action cards. This is an opportunity for students to have fun and play a fun game after school. There is no fee for this club.

Do you dream of being published? We need you to help lead the design of Houston’s own LITERARY MAGAZINE. Practice writing and editing with the club to increase the likelihood that you could be published in “Mustang Magazine!”

HMS Musical Theater

Theatre Club is a lively group where students explore acting, improvisation, and stage performance. Whether you love being on stage or behind the scenes, there’s a role for everyone! This year's play is Mary Poppins Jr.!

First Rehearsal: December 16

Performances: March 11-14

Rehearsals: 2-4x/week - 3-5pm

Beta Club

The Beta Club at Houston Middle School is a student-leadership and service organization that recognizes academic achievement and encourages character, leadership, and service to others. Members are selected based on their scholastic performance and conduct, and they participate in school and community service projects alongside club meetings and leadership development opportunities.
